The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a multirole fighter aircraft, air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack.
In an air combat role, the F-16 exceed all of potential threat fighter aircraft. It can locate targets in all weather
conditions and detect low flying aircraft in radar ground clutter. In an air to surface role, the F-16 can fly more
than 500 miles(860km.), delivery its weapons with superior accuracy, defend itself against the enemy aircraft,
and return to its starting point. An all weather capability allows it to accuracy deliver ordnance during non visual
bombing conditions. The light weight of the fuselage is achieved without reducing its strength. The F-16 can
withstand up to nine G's (nine times the force of gravity) which exceeds the capability of other current fighter.
The pilot has excellent flight control of the F-16 through its FIRE BY WIRE system. Electrical wires and relays
command, replacing the usual cable and linkage controls. For control, a side stick controller is used instead of
the conventional center mount stick.
F-16A is a single seat model first delivery january 1979.
F-16B is a two seat model. Its canopy extends to cover the second
pilot. The forward fuselage fuel tank and avionics space were reduced for second pilot.
F-16C&D model are pretty much just power up version of the F-16A&B model. The major change were in
the cockpit layout and hardwear/software enhancement.
F16-E is a new version under development at GENERAL DYNAMICS. It is also known
as Supersonic Cruise Aircraft Modification Program(SCAMP).It is delta wing version which increased wing area,
increased fuel capacity, increased payload, increased range and takeoff shorter distance.
The speed is 90 knots greater. |
