| Dassualt Rafale is a twin jet combat aircraft capable of carrying out a wide range of short and long range mission.
Rafale ia an extended multirole combat aircraft , featuring low-observability and capable of performing night or day and in all weather conditions. The aircraft has been developed for the French Airforce and Navy. When French left the EFA ( European Fighter Aircraft ) or Eurofighter project in 1985 , French decided to developed its own fighter and chose to produce the Rafale. Rafale is also a cannarded delta, but has less angular lines than EFA . Extensive use was made of composite materials. Rafale A was the Prototype. Rafale B is the Two-seat version. Rafale C is the Single seat. Rafale M is Carrier fighter version ,single seat with a spring-loaded nose wheel to help it into the air when launching. Rafale D will be a somewhat stealthy version for air force. The Rafale M entered service in 2001 and will be on the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. Rafale B and C will enter service in 2003. The Rafale is lighter and smaller than Eurofighter. A first demonstrator, the Rafale A, started its flight tests on july 4,1986. Plans are for 140 Rafale B and 94 Rafale C for Air Force, and 79 Rafale M for Navy. Deliveries are scheduled to run until 2009. Rafale is incorporating advanced technologies. Rafale alone will replace in France six different specialized aircraft. - Spectra self protection system: The Spectra defensive system is fully integrated in aircraft, giving it excellent survivability against both air and ground threats. Spectra provides long-range detection, identification and location of threats. - RBE2 electronic scaning radar, the functions includes: - air-to-air long-range detection and tracking of air targets , generation of 3D maps for terrain following,generation of 2D ground maps, long-range detection and targeting of sea targets. | ||
