| The An-124 Ruslan, designated by Antonov ASTC (NATO code name Condor). The aircraft is designated
for long range delivery and air dropping of heavy and large size of cargo. The aircraft fuselage has a double-deck layout. The cockpit, the relief crew compartment, and the troop cabin with 88 seats are on upper deck.
The lower deck is the cargo hold compartment. The onboard system of cargo handling equipment makes it possible to load and unload the cargo without the help of ground facilities. The An-124 has a transportation
capability higher than C-5A and C-5B. The fuselage nose be hinged upward to open the front cargo hatch and there is a cargo hatch in the rear fuselage too. The flight control system including global positioning system, ground
surveillance radar, forward-looking weather radar. The new version : An-124 was developed primarily as a strategic military freighter. An-124-100 certified by Russia in 1992 for commercial used. An-124-100 equipped with ZMKB Progress (previously Lotarev) D-18T engines (Ivchenko Progress Zaporozhye Machine-Building Design Bureau). An-124-100M equipped with western avionics. An-124-100M equipped with ZMKB Progress D-18T series3 engines which meet international noise and nitrous-oxide emission regulations. An-124-210 will be equipped with Rolls-Royce RB211-52H-T. The Antonov An-124 Ruslan was designed in the mid 1970 . The wings are high mounted, swept-back. The first prototype flew on 26 December 1982. The An-124 made its public debut at the Paris Air Show in 1985. The loads are positioned using two electric traveling cranes with total lifting of 44,100 lbs. The upper deck rear section is pressurized and can accommodate 88 troops. It has 24 wheel landing gear system (with two nose and ten main wheel bogies, five for each side, each bogie with two wheels) sharing the loads. | ||
