| The EURO FIGHTER 2000 (Typhoon) ,in December 1983 , the airforces of France , W. Germany (that time) ,
Italy , Spain, and the UK announced a program for the development of the next generaation combat aircraft,
designated FEFA (Future European Fighter Aircraft). FEFA was originally intended to enter service with all five countries
in the mid 1990 . From the beginning the program was dogged by political , commercial , technilogical , and
military infighting. Disagreement over the size of the aircraft and the production schedule led France to withdraw
from the program in July 1985 (France want to postponement due to competing with mirage 2000). In June 1986
Eurofighter Gmbh was formed to manage what was now the EFA ( Europian Fighter Aircraft ) program , with participation
by British Aerospace (33%) , MBB (now DASA, 33%) , Aeritalia (now Alenia , 21%) and CASA (13%). The aircraft is now known as the Eurofighter 2000. The first flight was made on 27 March 1994. The production delivery is expected to begin in 2000.The RAF currently estimating the combat readiness by the first Eurofighter air defence in 2005 . Designed features : low wing , low aspect ratio , tail-less , delta with 53 degrees leading edge sweepback ; under fuselage box side by side engine intake , each with fixed upper wedge ramp and vari-cowl (variable position lower cowl lip). Intended service life 6000 hrs. or 30 years. Structure ; Fuselage , Wings (including inner flaperon) , Fin , and Rudder mainly of CFC ( Carbon Fiber Composites ) except for foreplane , outboard flaperons and exhaust nozzles (titanium) / nose radome and fin-tip ( GRFP )/ leading edge slats , wing tip pods , fin leading edge , rudder trailing edge and major fairings (aluminum-lithium alloy ) / canopy surround ( magnesium alloy ).
