MIG-25 Foxbat is a single seat , medium range air interceptor and manufactured by Mikojan Gurevich of Russia.
Mig-25 is the fastest fighter in the world. The Mig-25 was designed only for high altitude fight .The purpose was planned to intercept the US bomber. At that time,
the US planned to develope the bomber that capable of delivering nuclear weapons and traveling at Mach 3 at altitude over 70,000 feet. The project
of the US was abandoned but Mig-25 continued. The Mig-25 is a twin finned , high wings with slightly swept back and variable angle tail plane. Weapons,
equipped with infrared and radar homing heads. The range of this missiles is 2-60 km. The missiles are suspended from four under wing pylons. Mig-25 made the first flight in 1964 and entry in-service in 1968. Mig-25 are in service in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Algeria, Syria, Libya and etc. An interesting is that the first air-to-air kill of the Gulf War is beleived to be a F-18C Hornet shot down by an Iraqi Mig-25 on 17 January 1991. The Mig-25 has a maximum speed of Mach 3.2 but if you flied at that speed , its engines must be replaced after each flight. Some of the Mig-25 variants as follows: Mig-25P Foxbat-A is the first production interceptor model armed with four air-to-air missiles. Mig-25R Foxbat-B is the first production reconnaisance model . Mig-25PU Foxbat-C is a two seat trainner. Mig-25RB Foxbat-D is the reconnaisance model with secondary bombing capability. Mig-25PD Foxbat-E is an improved interceptor with upgraded engines and radar and A-models rebuilt to this standard. Mig-25BM Foxbat-F is a defense supression model based on 25RB,lengthened nose, ECM equipment in place of reconnaisance module, armed with Kh-58 anti-radiation missiles for use against SAM sites. | ||
